Lord George Germain. One of the most prominent members on Lord Frederick North’s cabinet, George Germain, 1st Viscount Sackville held the position of Secretary of State for the Colonies throughout the Revolutionary War, and so shared a heavy amount of blame for Britain’s ultimate defeat.

George Germain was a British soldier, politician, and Secretary of State for the American Colonies during the Revolutionary War. He was the only cabinet minister to favor continued fighting and was dismissed by King George III for disobedience. He was later rehabilitated and became a peer in 1781.
