Out of all the sitcom adaptations that essentially made up the British film industry in the early to mid 70s I’d say For The Love of Ada is one of the very best, and definitely stands as one of my favourites, following young-at-heart pensioners Walter (Wilfred Pickles) and Ada (Irene Handl) as they deal with all the ups and downs that come while trying to celebrate their anniversary.
- Ronnie Baxter
This was probably the last gasp for the gently comedic "Huggett" style of British comedy. This one focussed on the elderly "Ada" (Irene Handl) and her husband "Walter" (Wilfred Pickles). It's not the most original of screenplays - indeed, it is difficult with characters like this to re-invent them for the big screen.
Unaware that their friends are planning a lavish party for them that night, Walter Bingley and his wife, Ada, begin the day of their first wedding anniversary with an argument. As if that weren’t bad enough, Walter loses the money for Ada’s gift.
