Battle of Loos †. Captain The Hon. Fergus Bowes-Lyon (18 April 1889 – 27 September 1915) was a British officer and older brother of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, who later became the queen consort of King George VI. Fergus Bowes-Lyon was killed during World War I. He was a maternal uncle of Elizabeth II .

Last week, Fergus Bowes-Lyon, son of the 14 th Earl of Strathmore, elder brother to the Queen Mother and uncle to Queen Elizabeth II, was added to our Roll of Honour. Killed amongst the 20,000 men who fell at the Battle of Loos in 1915, his remains were not found until 2011; nearly a century after his death.
Remains of Captain Fergus Bowes-Lyon, the Queen Mother's brother, have never been recovered since he died at the Battle of Loos in northern France in 1915. The Queen spoke of detective work to track down his suspected mass grave in 2011 as she met Ministry of Defence officials who help families find the bodies of their loved ones.
