Five departments of the faculty of history: Ancient and Medieval History, Modern and Contemporary History, Russian History, Contemporary National History, Methods of Teaching History – carry out a lot of research and teaching.
Before 1959, it was part of the History and Philology series, later — the Philology and Journalism Bulletin. Since 1965, it has been a standalone series of Moscow University Bulletin, labelled Series 10. Philology before 1976 and Series 9. Philology from 1976 to the present day.
In accordance with the plan of M.V. Lomonosov, 3 faculties were formed at Moscow University: philosophy, law and medicine. All students began their studies at the Faculty of Philosophy, where they received fundamental knowledge in the field of natural sciences and humanities.
The Faculty of Philosophy was created at RSUH in 1992. In setting up the Faculty, the leaders of RSUH followed the European model of higher education. Today, the Faculty offers a joint M.A. program with University of Paris-8 Vincennes-Saint-Denis. In the same year of 1992, the Faculty of History and Philology was opened.
The curriculum of the Faculty of Philology incorporates general humanities, i.e. philosophy, history, psychology, pedagogy, general courses in mathematics and IT, as well as optional courses in science and humanities.
Department of Ancient History. The founder of Moscow University, M.V.Lomonosov attached great meaning to the study of ancient traditions, and within the first ten years of the University's existence the academic development of issues in classical philology, ancient history, and Roman law began.
