Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon [b] (4 August 1900 – 30 March 2002) was Queen of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth from 11 December 1936 to 6 February 1952 as the wife of King George VI.

The wedding of Prince Albert, Duke of York (later King George VI) and Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (later Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother) took place on 26 April 1923 at Westminster Abbey. The bride was a member of the Bowes-Lyon family, while the groom was the second son of King George V.
Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon (born 1900) became queen through her marriage to George VI, king of Great Britain and Ireland from 1936 to 1952. Upon her husband's death, Elizabeth became the Queen Mother and will most likely be remembered as the most beloved royal figure in British history.
She married HRH Prince Albert, Duke of York (son of George V and Queen Mary), in Westminster Abbey on 26 April 1923. He later succeeded as King George VI when his brother Edward VIII abdicated. They had two children, Elizabeth, who succeeded to the throne in 1952, and Margaret Rose.
