Edward Smith-Stanley, 12th Earl of Derby PC (1 September 1752 O.S. – 21 October 1834), usually styled Lord Stanley from 1771 to 1776, was a British peer and politician of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.

(Whig) for Lancashire between 1774 and 1776.

15 de nov. de 2019 · Profile. Edward Smith Stanley, 12th Earl of Derby (12 September 1752 – 21 October 1834) is best remembered for his passion for sport. Two of the British classic horse races still commemorate that passion – the Epsom Derby, named after him, and the Epsom Oaks, named after his hunting lodge, The Oaks, where both races were conceived.

Origins. He was the eldest child and only son and heir of Edward Smith-Stanley, 12th Earl of Derby (1752–1834) by his wife Elizabeth Hamilton, a daughter of James Hamilton, 6th Duke of Hamilton . Career. He was educated at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge. [1] .
