Edward George Geoffrey Smith-Stanley, 14th Earl of Derby, KG GCMG PC PC (Ire) (29 March 1799 – 23 October 1869), known as Lord Stanley from 1834 to 1851, was a British statesman and Conservative politician who served three times as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Origins He was the eldest child and only son and heir of Edward Smith-Stanley, 12th Earl of Derby (1752–1834) by his wife Elizabeth Hamilton, a daughter of James Hamilton, 6th Duke of Hamilton . Career He was educated at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge. [1]
