References. External links. Edmund, Earl of Rutland (17 May 1443 – 30 December 1460) was the fourth child and second surviving son of Richard Plantagenet, 3rd Duke of York, and Cecily Neville. He was a younger brother of Edward, Earl of March, the future King Edward IV who came to the throne in 1461, the year after Edmund's death.

Edmund Plantagenet Earl of Rutland (17 May 1443 – 30 December 1460) Edmund, Earl of Rutland was the fifth and the second son of Richard of York, the 3 rd Duke of York. Edmund died at a very young age of 17, fighting by the side of his father at the Battle of Wakefield.
On 25 February 1390, the King created him Earl of Rutland, and on 22 March 1391 made him admiral of the northern fleet; he was made sole admiral the following November. In 1392, he became a member of King Richard's council, and was with the King during a campaign in Ireland in 1394–5.
