From those three, "señor" is the safest bet, but as you already saw, it is not completely safe. The same with "joven" or "chico". Not always safe.

Also Don may be preceded by Señor, and Doña by Señora or Señorita, thus conveying more respect, and in the last case, showing whether the lady is married or not: Señorita Doña Laura Lopez.

  10. 7 de ago. de 2012 · Don't mention it. Don't worry about it. All as very casual responses to "Thank you" In Spanish I would use "de nada" in the same environment. With friends / family, etc.. If I were entering a classy restaurant and held the door for someone who responded with "muchos Gracias" then I would reply "es un placer" (it's a pleasure).
