Clinton Davisson was a US-born American physicist who discovered the diffraction of electrons by crystals in 1927. He received his PhD from the University of Chicago and worked at Bell Telephone Laboratories and the University of Virginia. He was also interested in crystal physics, thermionics and theory of electron optics.
