Christopher Van Hollen Jr. (/ v æ n ˈ h ɒ l ə n / van HOL-ən; born January 10, 1959) is an American attorney and politician serving as the junior United States senator from Maryland since 2017. A member of the Democratic Party , Van Hollen served as the U.S. representative for Maryland's 8th congressional district from 2003 to 2017.
The Democratic and Republican primaries were held on July 19, 2022. [1] Incumbent Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen was first elected in 2016 with 60.9% of the vote, winning the seat of retiring incumbent Barbara Mikulski. He ran for a second term against Chris Chaffee, the Republican nominee.
