Although he was not as talented a seaman as his subordinates Sir Francis Drake and John Hawkins, Howard’s able leadership contributed greatly to this important English victory.

Charles Howard died of a heart attack in 1950 and was buried in the Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in Colma, California.
