Cassandra Elizabeth Austen (Hampshire, 9 de janeiro de 1773 — Hampshire, 22 de março de 1845 [1]) foi uma aquarelista inglesa amadora e irmã mais velha de Jane Austen. As cartas entre as duas irmãs formam uma base substancial para a compreensão acadêmica da vida de Jane.
Cassandra Elizabeth Austen (9 January 1773 – 22 March 1845) was an amateur English watercolourist and the elder sister of Jane Austen. The letters between her and Jane form a substantial foundation to scholarly understanding of the life of the novelist.
Cassandra died in 1845, at the age of 72, and was buried in the churchyard of St Nicholas’, Chawton, beside her mother. Before her death Cassandra destroyed many of Jane’s surviving letters, an act which was much criticised by later generations of critics.
