29 de set. de 2023 · Carter G. Woodson received the Spingarn Medal from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in 1926. To celebrate Woodson’s legacy in 2018, tech giants Google introduced a doodle on their homepage. Three years before that, a bronze sculpture of him was erected at a local park in Washington, D.C.

Carter G. Woodson was a scholar whose dedication to celebrating the historic contributions of Black people led to the establishment of Black History Month, marked every February since 1976. Woodson fervently believed that Black people should be proud of their heritage and all Americans should understand the largely overlooked achievements of Black Americans.

He has a State Department (RG 59) file Woodson, Carter (NAID 748944) from the series Applications and Recommendations for Appointment to the Consular and Diplomatic Services (NAID 657835 ), when he applied for a position with the State Department in 1908.
The Carter G. Woodson National Historic Site preserves the residence where Woodson spent the last 28 years of his life, as well as the original headquarters for the organization he founded, which continues today as the Association for the Study of African American Life and History.
