  1. Charles, Margrave of Burgau, also known as Charles of Austria, (22 November 1560 at Křivoklát Castle in Bohemia30 October 1618 in Überlingen [2] ), was the son of Archduke Ferdinand II of Austria and his first morganatic marriage to Philippine Welser. He was the brother of Andrew of Austria .

  5. Margrave Karl intensified the Habsburg claims to power by increasing and raising customs duties, among other things. This soon led to numerous jurisdictional conflicts with neighbours and "inmates". Against this backdrop, the Margrave commissioned the important Swabian land map painter Johann Andreas Rauch (1575-1632) to survey and map the entire margraviate of Burgau.
