9 de jun. de 2023 · Major Bruce Shand served with the 12th Lancers in World War Two. He won the Military Cross twice during his service, firstly in 1940 during the retreat to Dunkirk and secondly in 1942 at El Alamein.

Childhood Rosalind was born at 16 Grosvenor Street, London, on 11 August 1921, the eldest of the three children born to the Hon. Roland Calvert Cubitt (1899–1962) and his wife Sonia Rosemary Cubitt (née Keppel ; 1900–1986).
1 de jan. de 1990 · Shand joined the 12th Lancers in 1937, with socialising, hunting and riding on his mind more than anything else. Horses were only for personal time, as the regiment actually operated Morris armoured cars and Shand commanded ‘A’ Squadron when they deployed to France in October 1939.

8 de jun. de 2023 · The Queen’s father, the late Major Bruce Shand, served with the 12 th Lancers during World War II, winning the Military Cross during the retreat to Dunkirk in 1940 and again at El Alamein in 1942, shortly after which he was seriously wounded and taken prisoner in an action in which his crew was killed.
