Arthur Wellesley, o Duque de Wellington, foi um dos maiores generais da história britânica. Ele nasceu em 1769 na Irlanda e desde cedo mostrou habilidade militar. Wellington lutou em várias batalhas importantes, incluindo a Batalha de Waterloo em 1815, onde derrotou Napoleão Bonaparte.

Rising to prominence during the Peninsular War, he became a national hero in Britain after the Napoleonic Wars during which he led the victorious Anglo-Allied forces at the Battle of Waterloo.

Hailed by the public as the nation’s conquering hero, Arthur Wellesley was rewarded with the title, Duke of Wellington. The following year Napoleon escaped from Elba and returned to France where he resumed control of the government and army. In June 1815 he marched his troops into Belgium where the British and Prussian armies were encamped.
