Gracie survived the sinking of the Titanic by climbing aboard an overturned collapsible lifeboat and wrote a popular book about the disaster. [1]

Archibald Gracie IV was a colonel in the U.S. Army and a wealthy resident of Mobile, Alabama. He was a first-class passenger on the Titanic and offered his services to three unaccompanied women on board. He died in the sinking and his story is detailed in his book "The Truth About Chickamauga".
