  6. Life and career. Born at Kensington, Bentinck was the elder son of Lieutenant Colonel Lord Charles Bentinck [2] and of Anne Wellesley, formerly Lady Abdy. [3] . He had a younger brother, Arthur Cavendish Bentinck, and two sisters, Anne and Emily. His was frequently addressed as William or William-Charles to distinguish him from his father.
