12 de mar. de 2022 · Anne Hyde was born on March 12th, 1637, as the first daughter of the Earl of Clarendon and his second wife. During the English Civil War, King Charles I was overthrown, and his son and the royals’ supporters fled into exile in the Netherlands, where the Princess of Orange, the daughter of Charles I, offered them protection.
Anne was born in Saint James's Palace of London, the second daughter of James, Duke of York, (afterwards James II) and his first wife, the Lady Anne Hyde. Her paternal uncle was King Charles II, and her older sister was the future Mary II. Anne and Mary were the only children of the Duke and Duchess of York to survive into adulthood.

Anne Hyde married the Duke of York, the future James VII and II, in 1660. She was a regular patron of Lely and sat for her portrait on a number of occasions.
