Althorp is a lost village within the grounds of the Althorp estate in the English county of Northamptonshire. The village is recorded in the Domesday Book . In the 15th century, the manor was held by the Catesby family who were probably responsible for clearing the settlement, for by 1505, the records show that there were no tenants.
The 1st Northamptonshire Rifle Volunteers were a unit of the British Army raised from 1859 onwards as a group of originally separate Rifle Volunteer Corps (RVCs). They later became the 4th Volunteer Battalion of the Northamptonshire Regiment and saw action in the Gallipoli and Palestine campaigns during the First World War.
Althorp är ett gods beläget i Northamptonshire, England ägt av familjen Spencer sedan 1500-talet. Since then, they have split their time between Cape Town and Althorp, spending their summers at the family seat.
Er besuchte von 1848 bis 1854 die Harrow School, sowie anschließend das Trinity College der University of Cambridge, wo er 1857 seinen Master erhielt. 1857 wurde er für den Wahlkreis South Northamptonshire in das House of Commons gewählt, wechselte aber im Dezember in das House of Lords, da er nach dem Tod seines Vaters den Titel Earl Spencer erbte.
Lady Sarah Spencer was born at the Spencer seat of Althorp in Northamptonshire on 29 July 1787, and was the eldest daughter of the Whig politician Sir George Spencer, 2nd Earl Spencer (1758–1834) and his wife Lady Lavinia Bingham (1762–1831).
