Alexis Benoît Soyer (4 February 1810 – 5 August 1858) was a French chef, philanthropist, writer and inventor who made his reputation in Victorian England. Born in north-east France, Soyer trained as a chef in Paris, and quickly built a career that was brought to a halt by the July Revolution of 1830.

The French chef Alexis Soyer (1810–58) was perhaps the first ‘celebrity chef’ in Britain. After working in private kitchens, he was Head chef at the Reform Club from 1837 to 1850 where he designed and installed what was arguably the most innovative and technologically advanced kitchen in the world.
