Erected in 1891, the monument was commissioned by author/historian Henry Adams (a member of the Adams political family) as a memorial to his wife, Clover Hooper Adams.
Located in Rock Creek Cemetery, the Adams Memorial is one of the finest and most enigmatic works by the acclaimed sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Screened away from the rest of Rock Creek Cemetery by some carefully-placed foliage is a cast bronze figure, positioned in a granite architectural setting.
