Chesterfield is a town in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,472 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Chesterfield County. At the time of the 2010 census, Chesterfield was the least populous of all of South Carolina's county seats.

Chesterfield was named in honor of English statesman, Philip Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield. Philip Stanhope is also widely credited as the commissioner of the first Chesterfield sofa.

Like other South Carolina counties, Chesterfield may have taken its name from English nobility, in this instance Philip Stanhope, the earl of Chesterfield.
