It intersects with Brasenose Lane to the east, and Market Street and Ship Street to the west. These streets link Turl Street to the busy Cornmarket, and to the iconic Radcliffe Square . It is colloquially known as The Turl and is home to three of the University of Oxford 's historic colleges: Exeter, Lincoln and Jesus.
The college was founded in 1314 by two brothers from Devon, Bishop Walter Stapledon and Sir Richard Stapledon, as an institution to educate clergy and has been located on Turl Street since 1315.

Exeter College was founded in 1314 on its original location on Turl Street by Walter de Stapledon of Devon, Bishop of Exeter and later treasurer to Edward II. It was initially a school to educate clergy. During its first century, Exeter College was known as Stapeldon Hall and had just twelve to fourteen students.

31 de mar. de 2024 · Turl Street. Turl Street (or “The Turl”) runs northwards off the High Street between the Mitre Hotel (now Gusto Italiano) to the west and All Saints’ Church (now Lincoln College library) to the east. It has been closed to traffic (except for access) since 1985.
