The New Zealand National Party (Māori: Rōpū Nāhinara o Aotearoa), shortened to National (Nāhinara) or the Nats, is a centre-right New Zealand political party. It is one of two major parties that dominate contemporary New Zealand politics, alongside its traditional rival, the Labour Party.

The New Zealand National Party was formed in Wellington on May 13 and 14, 1936. It grew out of the coalition government of the Reform and Liberal parties, which had formed the wartime National Government in 1915. The Reform Party had been essentially a rural based party, whereas the Liberals were dominated by city based concerns.
The New Zealand National Party emerged in 1936 from the amalgamation of Reform and a remnant of the Liberals, the United Party. As of the 2023 general election [update] , the current parties represented in the House of Representatives are National, Labour, the Greens , ACT , Te Pāti Māori , and New Zealand First .
New Zealand has a multi-party system, though the dominant parties have historically been the Labour Party and the National Party (or its predecessors). Minority governments are common and typically dependent on confidence-and-supply agreements with other parties in the House of Representatives.
