William Herbert, 1st Baron Powis KB (c. 1573[1] – 7 March 1655 [2]) was a Welsh politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1597 and 1629.

When Sir William Herbert Knight of the Bath, Lord and Baron of Powys was born in 1573, in Cogan Pill, Glamorgan, Wales, his father, Sir Edward Herbert 2nd Earl of Pembroke, was 29 and his mother, Mary Stanley, was 15. He married Eleanor Percy, Duchess of Northumberland in 1597.

Herbert's descendent William Herbert, 1st Baron Powis (c. 1573–1655), was a supporter of Charles I, and was granted the barony of Powis in 1629. [19] His loyalty during the English Civil War cost him his castle and his estates. [20]
