Highgate is one of the UK’s leading co-educational independent schools. Founded over 450 years ago, we welcome pupils, aged 4 to 18, from a range of backgrounds across London. Highgate offers three schools in one: Our Pre-Preparatory School is for pupils aged 4-7 (Reception, Years 1 and 2). We have around 180 pupils based at our Bishopswood Road building, overlooking our sports grounds. Our Junior School is for pupils aged 7-11 (Years 3 to 6).
We want our pupils to enjoy their childhood to the full, to develop and pursue their academic and co-curricular passions, and to lead fulfilling, exciting lives as thoughtful and open-minded young adults. Highgate is a flourishing co-educational day school in North London.
Joining our Senior School. In September 2025, we hope to welcome approximately 80 children (boys and girls) to our Year 7. They will join around 105 Junior School pupils, moving from Year 6 into our Senior School. Below we have outlined the admissions process step by step.
Admissions. At Highgate, we have four standard entry points for pupils seeking to join the School: Reception (age 4+), Year 3 (age 7+), Year 7 (age 11+) and the Sixth Form (age 16+). In addition, we can sometimes offer “occasional places” into selected other year groups, depending on pupil numbers.

When starting in our Sixth Form, you take four academic subjects and your timetable will also include PSHE, critical method, and sport and exercise periods. You will have 12 lessons per fortnight allocated to each academic subject. Each lesson lasts 50 minutes, with a five-minute changeover between lessons.
