I think they mean that VS Code is more of a text editor that can be used across Mac, Windows, and Linux (with more features than a classic text editor, of course). It’s lightweight and great for learning to code. Basically it does what you need- view, edit, run, and debug code, and it does it fast.

A short summary of how it works is that the vscode extension starts a websocket server which the chrome extension connects to. On execution of a command, the selected text or contents of file (s) are sent to the chrome extension via websocket which manipulates chatgpt's DOM to input in the prompt textarea and send.
3 de mai. de 2021 · VS Code is more customisable, easily extensible with web technologies, and generally just more lightweight as it's quicker to load and doesn't have as many features you're not very likely to use. You can make it do only what you need it to do using extensions, and the user experience is overall also simpler.

VS Code might be better for these cases. Visual Studio is an IDE. That means it comes with all of the "heft" associated with an IDE, primarily the compiler and debugger.

13 de set. de 2023 · If you go ahead to install VS Code, it offers you to set up shortcuts. For example, if you right click on a folder in file explorer, it can show the option to "Open with Visual Studio Code." When you go to download the EXE, you get options to download a "user installer" and a "system installer."
If C# is your thing, setting up Visual Studio Code to be competitive to Visual Studio will be kinda hard. In contrast, Visual Studio setup will be like 5-6 clicks. For other languages like C, C++, Python etc Visual Studio Code can be setup quite easily. It has easy to configure plugins for everything. Edit #1: typos.
Your code lives in your local drive (mostly, unless you configured it differently), so don't worry about losing anything. Since you're a beginner, things like IntelliJ are the enemy. You want to code in a basic editor, and take your source code all the way to byte code yourself.
