Backpacks are crafted to a higher tier in a crafting table and retain their contents, so no need to empty them. The upgrades to increase stack size in the storage, both backpack and barrels/chests, go in the top left. Other upgrades like magnet upgrade, or the feeding upgrade for the backpack, all go into those slots on the top left.

These work great. Yeah sophisticated storage is amazing in so many ways. Once you get it to something like diamond tier or netherite and apply some diamond stack upgrades on it you're gonna have fun, it's the bread and butter of the logistical system me and my friends built. That was added in an update on March 5th.
10 de fev. de 2023 · Sophisticated storage and functional storage have a block that is for that purpose. Controller I think is called. That block connects to multiple chest using the tool of the mod, and you can connect a External storage to that block. You can also connect a External storage to every chest but that way is a lot more expensive.

28 de out. de 2023 · Is there a way to prevent Sophisticated Storage chests from spitting all their contents out on break? While I doubt this will happen, thanks to AE2, it would be a pretty major inconvenience to have a chunk corrupt because I destroyed a chest containing a million dirt or something.

Back in the day I used a massive block of Storage Drawers with an external storage on the controller for my storage, then I used Functional for a while, now my favorite is Sophisticated by far. Also sophisticated backpacks are great especially with the inception upgrade.
