2 de out. de 2020 · Just to be clear, there are two terms here that are quite different in AE: a socket is for a light bulb; you screw the bulb into the socket: (A "wall socket" would suggest to us that the socket is in the wall instead of on the ceiling, as is more usual.) We plug our appliances into an outlet or a wall plug:
7 de ago. de 2019 · To me, using "outlet" would be as if to say "money-making operation for the sale of food". Restaurant means this, as well. But "outlet" seems to be something that is more business and profit focused, which would not take into account the peripheral aspects of a restaurant or an operation such as a fast food place. 22 de dez. de 2013 · Thank you vivace160! An AC adapter allows you to plug a device (such as a radio) into a wall outlet (alternating current) instead of running it on a battery (direct current). This has nothing to do with air conditioning. AC or A/C is used for both, and this can cause confusion.

21 de dez. de 2013 · I have not looked into it but you would need to check the history of the newspaper in question; it could be that 2 media outlets merged, one of them a specialist magazine or paper on shipping and maritime transport, i.e. a shipping gazette, and this found its way in the name of the combined media outlet/newspaper.
