This database provides a catalogue of all living reptile species and their classification. The database covers all living snakes, lizards, turtles, amphisbaenians, tuataras, and crocodiles. Currently there are more than 10,000 species including another 2,800 subspecies ( statistics ).
The tables below give you an idea how many species* of reptiles are known. About 200 species have been described in each of the previous years and therefore the real number changes continuously. See The original descriptions of reptiles (and their subspecies) for a historical analysis.
