Swift announced the arrival of new music at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards during her acceptance speech for Video of the Year. Swift also mentioned that more information would be available at midnight that same night.
On August 28, 2022, Swift announced the title of her tenth studio album. The album's cover art and release date were announced on the same day.
Following the award show, Swift's website received a redesign. After the album announcement, new merchandise became available for preorder through her store.
On September 1, Swift revealed that there would be three additional album artworks available for purchase throughout the upcoming week.
On September 13, Target announced that there would be a lavender edition of the album.
On September 16, Taylor Nation announced that each limited edition CD and vinyl would be brought back on the social medias.
