Mark William Lanegan (November 25, 1964 – February 22, 2022) was an American singer and songwriter. First becoming prominent as the lead singer for the early grunge band Screaming Trees, he was also known as a member of Queens of the Stone Age and The Gutter Twins.

Field Songs is the fifth solo album by Mark Lanegan, released in 2001 on the Beggars Banquet label. Recording. The two largest instrumental contributors are Mike Johnson and Ben Shepherd, the latter co-writing "Blues for D" with the singer.
In 2000 Lanegan guested on Rated R by Queens of the Stone Age, a band which he had become a full-time member of in 2001. In 2003 Lanegan started working with Greg Dulli as The Gutter Twins . They would release their debut album in 2008 which peaked at 117 on the Billboard 200 ; the highest placement for a Lanegan record. [ 4 ]
