31 de ago. de 2015 · Apple does not provide direct downloads for iOS ipsw files for iDevices except to registered developers. There's really no need, since you can only install the current iOS release. All other files would be useless, as they would no longer be signed for installation.

When you choose to Update with iTunes or Finder you have a choice to download and install or to download only. That might be what you are recalling about downloading the IPSW.
26 de set. de 2013 · iTunes uses IPSW files to restore your device. If those files are unusable, try deleting them, renaming them, or moving the file to a different directory. This will cause iTunes to download a new copy of the IPSW. When a restore issue is specific to a user, it's likely due to an unusable .ipsw file.

23 de mar. de 2021 · If you bypass the Apple built in update system and download an ipsw from a web site, yes, it can easily have all sorts of malware encoded into it. The only legal and official source of ipsw files is via Apple’s update system. Anyone else distributing ipsw files is doing so illegally. Michael Black. Level 10.
19 de ago. de 2018 · @tadpole88, my only suggestion at the moment is to try to find the iPod Touch .ipsw image from a 3rd party site, which is what I'm now about to go do :'D You can then restore the image manually by holding Option key when you click Restore iPod, and this will let you manually select the .ipsw on your local drive.
