13 de fev. de 2023 · Shrinking lung syndrome is a rare complication of systemic autoimmune disease, most commonly SLE. This condition presents with exertional dyspnoea with or without pleuritic chest pain. It is rare, affecting approximately 1% of patients with SLE, and can occur at any point in the disease.

Shrinking lung syndrome (SLS) is a pulmonary complication of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) characterized by dyspnea, pleuritic chest pain, and progressive decrease in lung volumes with no evidence of pleural or interstitial disease on chest CT.
Shrinking lung syndrome is characterized by small lung volumes, elevation of the diaphragm and restrictive physiology without parenchymal involvement. Its pathogenesis remains controversial: diaphragm dysfunction, phrenic neuropathy or pleural inflammation.
