The bay was named ‘Jervis Bay" by Lieutenant Bowen of the Atlantic in honour of Admiral Sir John Jervis under whom he had served. 1811 GW Evens surveyed the bay.
Jervis Bay Territory. The Jervis Bay Territory is a territory of Australia. It was bought from New South Wales in 1915, to give the Australian Capital Territory ( ACT) access to the sea. In 1989 it was separated from the ACT. However it is counted to the ACT during elections for the senate .
