New Bern (pronounced /ˈnjuːbərn/) is a city in Craven County, North Carolina. It has a population of 31,291 as of 2020. It is located where the Trent and the Neuse rivers meet. The city is 112 miles (180 km) east of Raleigh and 80 miles (130 km) northeast of Wilmington. New Bern is the county seat of Craven County.
The Neuse River (/ n uː s / NOOSE, Tuscarora: Neyuherú·kęʔkì·nęʔ) is a river rising in the Piedmont of North Carolina and emptying into Pamlico Sound below New Bern. Its total length is approximately 275 miles (443 km), [2] making it the longest river entirely contained in North Carolina .
