Randolph County Regiment. The Randolph County Regiment was created when Randolph County was created by the North Carolina General Assembly on February 2, 1779 from the southern third of Guilford County. The officers were appointed and commissioned by the Governor. The regiment was active until the end of the war in 1783.

The battalion was commanded by Colonel James Thackston. It was disbanded on April 10, 1776 in favor of Hillsborough District Brigade of militia.

Although the Guilford County Regiment continued to be included in the Salisbury District Brigade of Militia, at inception, the Randolph County Regiment was placed in the Hillsborough District Brigade of Militia, where it remained until the end of the war.

Each district was to supply a brigade of militia regiments under the command of a brigadier general. Thomas Person was appointed the first commander of the Hillsborough District Brigade in 1776.
