With a history of more than 160 years, it is a declared monument under the Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance and has witnessed the development of Hong Kong over the years.
Location. Upper Albert Road, Central, Hong Kong. Construction of Government House began in 1851 on the hill above Central, eight years after Hong Kong was declared a British colony. The house was completed four years later, and Sir John Bowring became the first governor to live there; the final occupant was the last governor, Chris Patten.
