Timbertop can be an incredibly powerful and formative experience for students fortunate enough to spend time in this unique and isolated community. For over 70 years, both staff and students alike have realised that the lessons learned here are profound and often life changing.
Entry into Timbertop. Criteria for offering a place at Timbertop. Each year, places are available to join Timbertop as a new student. The School receives more applications than the number of places available, and unfortunately not all applicants for Year 9 entry can be offered a place.
Responsibility, challenge and independence. Unit life is integral to the experience of Timbertop. The feelings of independence that result from living with and relying on others are central to Timbertop’s success. There are sixteen Units (eight for boys and eight for girls).

Established in 1953, by then Headmaster James Darling, Timbertop is compulsory for all year-nine students attending Geelong Grammar School.
