19 de mar. de 2022 · Thomas Elmhirst was born on December 15, 1895, in Yorkshire, England, the son of a clergyman. He joined the Royal Navy and became a midshipman in May 1913. During World War I he was initially part of the regular Navy. However, in 1915, he was sent to join the Royal Naval Air Service as an airship pilot.

Military career. Elmhirst studied at the Royal Naval Colleges at Osborne, Isle of Wight in 1908, and at Dartmouth, Devon. [1] He was commissioned as a midshipman in the Royal Navy in 1913 and was posted to HMS Indomitable in the 1st Battlecruiser Squadron under David Beatty, 1st Earl Beatty. [2] .
