Holland House. Coordinates: 51°30′9″N 0°12′19″W. Holland House, originally known as Cope Castle, was an early Jacobean country house in Kensington, London, situated in a country estate that is now Holland Park. It was built in 1605 by the diplomat Sir Walter Cope.

Holland House was a gathering place where prestigious Whig aristocracy hobnobbed with the editors of the Edinburgh Review and assorted literati – an alternative locus of political influence at a time when the Whigs’ parliamentary impotence was keenly felt.
