The Arrondissement of Ghent (Dutch: Arrondissement Gent; French: Arrondissement de Gand) is the largest of the six administrative arrondissements in the Province of East Flanders, Belgium. It is both an administrative and a judicial arrondissement.
Gand (prononcé : /ɡɑ̃/; en néerlandais : Gent, prononcé : /xɛnt/ ), est une ville belge néerlandophone, située en Région flamande au confluent de la Lys et de l' Escaut. Elle est le chef-lieu de la province de Flandre-Orientale et depuis 1559 le siège de l' évêché de Gand.
Gent (Frans: Gand) is de hoofdstad en grootste centrumstad van de Belgische provincie Oost-Vlaanderen en van het arrondissement Gent. Gent heeft een oppervlakte van 15.777 hectare en telt ruim 267.712 (ingeschreven) inwoners (2023), waarmee het naar inwonertal de op een na grootste gemeente van België is, na Antwerpen.

Nationalities
Ghent is home to many people of foreign origin and immigrants. The 2020 censusrevealed that 35.5% of the inhabitants had roots outside of Belgium and 15.3% had a non-Belgian nationality. Many neighbourhoods already have a minority-majority population, primarily in the north, east, and west of the city and some pockets in the south. Some examples are Brugse Poort, Dampoort, Rabot, Ledeberg, Nieuw Gent/UZ and the area around Sleepstraat (known for its many Turkish restaurants).
Architecture
Much of the city's medieval architecture remains intact and is remarkably well preserved and restored. Its centre is a carfree area. Highlights are St. Bavo's Cathedral with the Ghent Altarpiece, the belfry, the Gravensteen castle, and the splendid architecture along the old Graslei harbour.
