Pontoise is the historical capital of the Vexin français. Its foundation dates from Roman times ( Pontisara ). At that time, the rock peak overhanging the river Oise supported the defense of the fort which was on the Roman road, the Chaussée Jules César, between Lutetia ( Paris) and Rotomagus ( Rouen ).
Pontoise est la capitale historique du Vexin français. Elle est, de 1964 à 1970, la préfecture unique du Val-d'Oise, avant d'en devenir une sous-préfecture (jusqu'au 1er avril 2016, date de la fermeture définitive de la sous-préfecture de Pontoise) en restant le chef-lieu du département.
Pontoise, town, capital of Val-d’Oise département, Île-de-France région, north-central France. It is situated on the right bank of the Oise River , just northwest of Paris . In 1966 it became an episcopal see, and its cathedral, formerly Saint-Maclou Church, dates from the 12th century.

Cergy-Pontoise est une ville nouvelle française construite à partir des années 1970 autour des communes de Cergy et Pontoise, dans le nord-ouest de la région Île-de-France. Le syndicat intercommunal créé pour la ville nouvelle a donné naissance à l'actuelle communauté d'agglomération de Cergy-Pontoise. Ses habitants sont appelés les Cergy-Pontains.
