Der Kreis Schleswig-Flensburg (dänisch Slesvig-Flensborg amt) ist ein Kreis im Norden des Landes Schleswig-Holstein. Gemessen an seiner Fläche ist er der drittgrößte Kreis des Landes. Trotz des Namens gehört die Stadt Flensburg nicht zum Kreisgebiet, da sie kreisfrei ist.
It is the capital of the Kreis (district) Schleswig-Flensburg. It has a population of about 27,000, the main industries being leather and food processing. It takes its name from the Schlei (Slien), an inlet of the Baltic Sea at the end of which it sits, and vik or vig which means "bay" in Old Norse and Danish.
Schleswig-Holstein lies on the base of Jutland Peninsula between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Strictly speaking, "Schleswig" refers to the German Southern Schleswig (German: Südschleswig or Landesteil Schleswig, Danish: Sydslesvig), whereas Northern Schleswig is in Denmark (South Jutland County, Region of Southern Denmark).
