David T. Howard High School was a school for African American students in Atlanta, Georgia. It has many prominent alumni. In 2018 the school was being renovated for a planned 2020 reopening as a middle school.
David T. Howard was a former slave who became a successful Atlanta business owner and the founder of the city's first African American owned bank. Mr. Howard was a noted philanthropist and supporter of education. One of his many donations was the 7.5 acre campus that became the location for an elementary school that was named after him.
6 de abr. de 2017 · David T. Howard opened in 1947 (formerly an elementary school of the same name) as Atlanta's second high school dedicated to the African-American community. The only other high school for African-American's was Booker T. Washington high school which remains in use.

The school played a role in educating a young Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Atlanta’s former mayor, Maynard Jackson, and NBA Legend Walt Frazier permanently closed its doors in 1976.

History. The first African-American High Shcool in the city of Atlanta. The Beginning. In 1923, the City of Atlanta opened the David T. Howard Grammar School located in the block bounded by Houston, Randolph, Howell and Irwin Streets.
