9 de jul. de 2019 · St Andrews along with being the ‘home of golf’ is the home for the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, which was founded in 1754. Initially known as the Society of St Andrews Golfers, the R&A GC was started by 22 noblemen, landowners and professors.
Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, one of the world’s oldest and most-influential golf organizations, formed in 1754 by 22 “noblemen and gentlemen” at St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland, as the Society of St. Andrews Golfers. It adopted its present name in 1834 by permission of the reigning British monarch, William IV.

Golf Club of St Andrews. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews was founded on 14 May 1754, with the first Challenge for the Silver Club. Evolving over 250 colourful years of British history, it has grown from a small society into a club with 2,500 members worldwide.
The history of St Andrews Links goes back to 1552 when John Hamilton was granted a charter to establish a rabbit warren to the north of the links. The St Andrews Links Charter refers to the public ownership of the links and the right of the people of St Andrews to play golf and other games.
