The Ambassadors has been part of London's National Gallery collection since its purchase in 1890. They extensively restored the painting in 1997, leading to criticism, in particular, that the skull's dimensions had been changed.
Les Ambassadeurs est un double portrait de Jean de Dinteville (1504-1555 ou 1557), bailli de Troyes, seigneur de Polisy et ambassadeur français, et Georges de Selve (1509-1541), ecclésiastique, érudit et diplomate français, peint par Hans Holbein le Jeune en 1533, actuellement conservé à la National Gallery de Londres.
