Though known for his coarsely executed figures, Dubuffet could also veer toward abstraction, which is especially evident in his landscapes. This work prefigures a series of nearly abstract "Texturologies" and "Materiologies" of the late 1950s that explore the texture and expanse of earth and pavement.

1 de nov. de 2016 · Jean Dubuffet. Jean Dubuffet’s work is marked by a rebellious attitude toward prevailing notions of high culture, beauty, and good taste. He began making art in earnest at age 41, after a stint in the army and a successful career as a wine merchant.
Jean Dubuffet looked to the margins of the everyday—the art of prisoners, psychics, the uneducated, and the institutionalized—to liberate his own creativity, coining the term “Art Brut” as a reflection of the creative possibilities outside the conventions of the day.
